Facing Homelessness, Jason Cried Out to God!

“I made bad decisions in my life, some I knew about, and others I didn’t even realize,” Jason says.

Jason was in a relationship, working hard at his job and enjoying beers at the end of his day — a fairly typical life, he thought. Then when the relationship soured, he was asked to leave. Jason searched for a place to stay but kept coming up short, both on money and on friends who could keep housing him.

Growing up as a Jehovah’s Witness, Jason had a connection with God, but not a relationship. However, just a few days before the date he was told to leave, Jason lay on the floor and prayed.

“I cried out to God to show me what to do,” he says. “I was about to be homeless. I tried everything, but I had nowhere to go.” Then God reminded Jason of a friend who works at Memphis Union Mission. Jason contacted his friend, and she encouraged him to come here, assuring him he would be welcomed. Jason did just that and his world began to change.

“Being at Memphis Union Mission taught me how to become truly Christ-centered,” Jason says. “Over time, the conviction of the Holy Spirit guided me to make good, healthy decisions instead of what I chose to do in the past. I am now committed to maintaining the convictions and tools I learned to serve Christ.”

Today, Jason is a graduate of the Iron-On-Iron program and lives at the Wright Transitional House. He was able to maintain his electrical license, despite having court cases to settle.

“The staff helped me take care of everything I needed,” he explains. “Now, I can continue to work and focus on staying grounded and active in my church.”

Jason is beyond grateful for your support. “I am so thankful you keep Memphis Union Mission open,” he says. “Your gifts allow this place to share the Gospel and stay faith-based. You are a steward of God, and being here is a blessing.”
