“God Was Always There for Me”

Kylie grew up on a farm in Arkansas, and though she was raised well, she admits her life wasn’t guided by God. As a young woman, she endured abuse and turned to drugs while living on the streets. She found herself trapped in survival mode. “I never wanted to do bad things, but I was stuck,” Kylie says. “I was so alone. I finally broke down and cried out, ‘God, I need You!’”

Just days after surrendering her life to Christ, Kylie was sent to jail. Instead of despair, she felt peace. “I knew I would be okay because I had God with me,” she recalls.

While Kylie was incarcerated, her aunt helped her find Moriah House at Memphis Union Mission. “The day I got out of jail, I went straight there,” she says. “Once I started my journey of healing, everything I prayed for came to me—support, counseling, a job, even my teeth fixed and my fines dealt with. The staff helped with it all, and God healed my mind and my heart.”

Kylie stayed at Moriah House for 14 months and graduated from the program. “I loved my time at Moriah House. I was always in my Bible, learning and growing, and the counselors became like my best friends. What makes Moriah House so special is the people—their support, their care, and the way they walk alongside you.”

Her life today looks nothing like it once did. “I used to be homeless, hard-hearted, and only cared about myself. Now I have a home of my own, and I care for others more than me. I’ve grown and matured because of the discipline I learned at Moriah House, and now I listen to God for my future.”

Kylie’s heart is full of gratitude—for God, for Memphis Union Mission, and for everyone who made her journey possible. “I know now that God was always there, waiting for me to come to Him,” she says. “I want to surround myself with godly people and be the change someone else sees. I want to be a disciple.”

And she has a special message for you: “The donors, the staff, everyone who helps at Moriah House—you make us feel like women again. Thank you for caring about us and helping us find new life in Christ.”
