This winter has been one of the most difficult we’ve experienced in the
Mid-South in some time. As a result of the bitter cold temperatures and wintry
weather, we’ve been serving more people than we normally do this time of year.
Here at Memphis Union Mission, with your help, we replace cardboard with warm
beds, serviceable shoes, clothing and a place to shelter from cold winter
nights. We also provide hot meals and the means to end homelessness – one person
at a time.
Do these simple services make a difference? Absolutely! Just ask Edward!
Thanks to you, people like Edward are able to find shelter!
Edward lost a lot to drugs and alcohol: his wife, his daughters, his home, his
job and finally, his soul. "When I was homeless, I stayed in my car. When I lost
my car, that's when homelessness really impacted me."
Finding himself homeless and destitute, Edward came to Memphis Union Mission.
"Just being here gave me a sense of hope." Eventually, Edward entered our
recovery program and gained "the tools I needed to live life the way it's
supposed to be lived." Today, he works as a supervisor in a security job and
hires other men out of our recovery program.
"The biggest blessing the Lord has put in my life is putting me in a position to
help others. Every morning I wake up with the prayer to get wisdom in every
decision I make, because they can impact others."
From homeless to hopeful – that's the difference your support can make.
You can provide all this and more with your secure online gift to Operation Safe
Shelter.
God bless you for caring,
