Touched by an angel
Even though his grandmother made sure he attended church when he was younger, Billy was always in some kind of “trouble.” “I never knew my father. He was killed in a bar, and my mother was always gone.”
Billy began drinking when he was 13 and “barely” graduated from high school. He went to work in a furniture factory making good money, got married and had two daughters.
But his rebelliousness and drinking landed him in prison, ending his marriage.
The next several years would be a roller coaster.
The highs were great...renewing his relationship with the Lord, singing in the church choir and returning to college where he became a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
It was the lows (drinking, gambling, drugs, falling away from God) – and one amazing conversation with a man Billy believes was an angel – that brought Billy to the Mission for the first time.
He entered our Iron-On-Iron program at Calvary Colony, but left after only two months.
After seven more years of drinking and trouble, Billy had finally had enough.
“I called Pastor Ken. I didn’t think he’d remember me, but what he said was amazing!"
Today, Billy says, “God had His hand on me from day one!
“You can’t imagine the amount of faith I have today. God has given me so much peace. I’m always happy, always smiling, and I thank God for everything He’s done.”
“God allowed for me to be destroyed in order to rebuild me. I’m much happier now than I was, and there’s so much more He’s going to do for me!”
